A wonderful way to end the weekend..

These few months of intensive effort has culminated into a splendid performance at the Openiong Ceremony. I'm pretty sure everyone who attended the ceremony was blown away by the high-energy and vibrancy of the performance and performers. Within the short 17 minutes of the entire performance, we meridians have shown the world what we truly are. The words of the school song kept ringing in the minds and ears of everyone present on that night and indeed it was an accurately reflection of what the Meridian spirit is all about.

The choir enchanted everyone with their mind-boggling acapella redition of the school song. This was followed by the robust sound of the school symphonic band as they take us through a variation of the school song that seem to depict our growth thus far. Immediately, the atmosphere is taken onto a much higher level where the dancers (including me, don't question why I'm not in band, its a long story) release an outbust of energy to turn on the crowd. The dance accompanied by the intensely upbeat music sent the crowd moving about their seats. Even Ms Lai was moving to the groove of the beat and it was sure glad that everyone was enjoying themselves. The last act toned down the energy level as we sang the school song affectionately and with pride. I have never seen the entire school sang the school song this way before, it resembled that of national day when everyone was just hyped up by the surrounding which made them want to associate themselves with the event. Finally as the confetti filled the entire hall and model planes were flying around, it marked the end of the successful opening ceremony.

As the ministers and VIPs took their leave, Ms Lai turned around and gesticulated violently as she applaude us for our effort and the success of this opening ceremony. That was the moment of recognition and it was comforting for all the performers as we heave a sigh of relief that it was all over. Almost immediately, the councillers came out to do a merdian cheer which put the entire ceremony to a wonderful closing.

After the entire thing was over, the dancers ran to the food reception to get some food and drink which the performance and waiting drained away from us. We were so glad that the entire thing is over. All of us were excited and went around taking pictures with anyone we saw. With these pictures, it left good memories which we can keep for the rest of our life.

On top of that, during the afternoon wait before the actual performance, we took tons of picture as well, it was awesome. And an hour before our turn to perform, we did our final rehearsal in the dance studio and it was filled with energy and screaming. We all enjoyed ourselves and were determined to put up an excellent performance.

I guess this was a good experience for me as I get to know more people with the same interest for dancing and performing. And also taking on the audience and performing for them was a challenge as well. But it was all cool as I thought all of us did well and deserved the applause. Hopefully there will be chances like that again as it was great working with these people. I am beginning to miss band and my instrument. Guess this short break from band life is necessary for me to further pursue my passion in band life. Guess I should be very committed to band for quite some time. -winks-

yay.. school ends at 9.30am today because the school has to prepare for the opening ceremony. While the rest of the school are having their holidays for the next three days, performers and anyone involve in the ceremony will be busy for these next two days.. NOT FAIR!!

Now, I am just lazing around waiting for 3 o'clock to come so I can make my way to the bus stop and go to school for OC rehearsal at 3.30pm. I am so freaking tired, I only had 4.5 hours of sleep yesterday as I was trying to rush the Silas Marner essay which was supposedly due on tuesday. But nonetheless I managed to complete it. Phew. Over the next few days, there are lots of assignments to complete as well, hopefully I can finish them asap. Also, preparation for the block test. Hmm, I am so worried about the damn block test. Guess I just have to work harder if I hope to proceed on.

I just sent my contact lenses for re-servicing as they were giving me problems like blur vision and sore eyes. And so I had the excuse to buy a disposable pair of contact lense at $19, brown colour still. It looks freaky at first when you see your iris turn brown but soon I got used to it. This pair is going to last me for the opening ceremony performance as my original contact lenses will not come back on time. Damn, my stomach hurts after all the sit-ups that I've done yesterday, it feels like I broke a rib or something.

And I still have to dance. HOpefully it turns out well today as the last rehearsal on monday was atrocious as everyone didn't have the energy required to pull off the entire event. But you cant really blame us after we had to wait for so long. The teachers think they know a lot, but in fact they know little, the only thing they are good at is probably to demand more and set higher expectation. No doubt they wanted an excellent performance but the way they went about organising things was definitely not satisfactory.

Hide and Seek was a good movie, I thought, a good triller. It was a pity that I saw the ending which was less disturbing but bizarre. There are two endings to the movie and the other one was disturbing as the little girl eventually went crazy too and drew a freaky painting. I thought the movie was pretty sad as you see the innocent child tortured by the images of her parents dying and being killed. I also think that Robert De Niro captured the role of the father as a mentally disturbed patient very well. It didn't make me suspect anything until the twist was revealed which shocked me.

oopps gotta go for the rehearsal.. see ya. sign off.

Friday, February 18

This week has been a truly tiring week for a lot of people, especially those who are involved in the opening ceremony of Meridian Junior College. I, for one, am involve in the event as well. Practices begin as early as 7.45am in the morning and lessons continue as per normal. Just imagine dancing till you almost drop and you have to sit in for lesson when you're sweaty and perspiring. Even a bath does not make it totally refreshing. And the best part of it is that after a dreadful day of lectures and tutorials, there is a combine rehearsal for everyone at 5.30pm in the afternoon. This is absolute madness man.. I guess it will all culminate in a spectacular performance on the actual opening ceremony. Next week is just gonna get better, so better take a good rest over the weekend.

Just watched Hide and Seek and two of my classmates today, Ming Yan and Syafiqah. I thought the movie was gonna be a horror film or something. Turns out that the movie was more of a thriller and a little element of psycho killer in it. But overall I thought the movie was interesting and full of surprises. The element of suspense was intriguing and it never fails to scare you the the most unexpected moments. I guess what I truly liked about the movie was the interesting twist at the end of the movie and also the ending that leaves you pondering over some of the issues raised in the movie.

The block test is coming very soon and I definitely hope I will be able to clear it and move on. Hopefully there will be enough time to complete whatever I am suppose to complete. It seems hard to keep this blog going, perhaps I can only update it whenever I have the time to. I also haven't been visiting my friends' blogs lately. I wonder whether it is just me or everyone is too busy to visit each other's blogs. Maybe blogs have lost their appeal to the masses and it has solely become a form of diary for individuals.

hmm.. tired.. yawn.. sleepy.. nitez..

Monday, February 7

finally, the Chinese New Year is coming. It is the most anticipated holiday of the year as everyone gets to have fun and meet up for some gathering. I guess this year will be no exception and I will make sure that I have some thorough fun before going back to school work. I am definitely looking forward to this year celebration as I will be going to some of my friends house for reunion dinner and basically just fun and more fun. And not forgetting the collection of AngBaos. Haha, I'm gonna to get rich, yay woohoo.. This year hopefully the adults will appreciate my 18 years of existence and give me a bigger Angbao. Haha. I bought my New Year clothes way before Chinese New Year was even near. Thanks to some of my friends who gave me clothes and vouchers as birthday present, I could save a bit on the clothes expenditure.

Band practices are becoming more frequent as SYF competition draws near. Above that, Meridian is having its official opening ceremony on 28 Febuarary. It is going to be a magnificient event where many Meridian talents are showcase. The Band and choir will be putting up this wonderful blend of Western and Chinese instrumentation which gives a new meaning to the pieces. And thanks to Belinda Foo that we have an awesome concept for the meridian song. Well, too bad she didn't do a good job and Ms Sia is going to edit her work as far as she could. We were making this joke that Ms Sia will put her name as arranger of the piece and minimise the fonts of the actual composer. Well, I definitely hope she doesn't show up on that way as she will be hopping mad if she hears the edited version, although it is much nicer and grand. Who wants their work edited, right? Anyway, I will be dancing along with a group of vibrant individuals, to the tune Reach by Gloria Estefan. The dance is vigorious and forceful but I thought it could be more challenging to bring out the talent especially in the dance people. Nevertheless, the dance would definitely one of the highlight of the entire programme. Not forgetting the choir as well, their voice will enchant us with different rendition of the school song.

Speaking of dance, Ms Sia saw me dancing and I was freaking out that she would come on stage and drag me down. Surprisingly, she asked my section mates whether I go clubbing everyday. A compliment actually. Should be very grateful as she is hardly so generous with her words. At least now she does not pick on me anymore but she has a new nickname for me, DiscoKing. So obiang but so shiok. Haha. I shan't go on and on about it. My head is almost bursting.. Ego overtripping. Heehee
